Kirwee Bees have 600 hives located throughout Canterbury and Marlborough. They use organic practices to manage their hives and they spin out each hive individually. Therefore, they have a very large selection of honey choices.
We have learned that the lighter the honey the sweeter the honey is. Honey Dew is gathered from hives located near the beech forests, here the bees forage for nectar that is omitted by the bark of the trees. This honey is very popular and has a unique taste, it is really dark in colour and technically is not a true honey as it never crystallizes. All honey in stock is raw, including the Manuka Honey that is harvested from an island in the Marlborough Sounds. We have this years’ Manuka in stock, it has a UMF* value of 10+ and another interesting fact about Manuka is the longer that is sits, the higher the UMF value becomes.
*Laboratory Tested. UMF stands for Unique Manuka Factor. All “raw” honey has natural antibacterial qualities and contains an anti-inflammatory action that can quickly ease pain and inflammation. Raw Manuka is soothing for many skin ailments including cuts, abrasions and rashes.
